Grading Syllabus

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on White Belt (Minimum 6 months consistent attendance)

Movement Techniques:

  • Bear Crawl
  • Rolling forward over the shoulder
  • Rolling backwards over the shoulder
  • Hip escapes
  • Break falls backwards

Techniques:

  • One Takedown
  • One Submission from Mount

Self Defence:

  • Technical stand up
  • Single handed wrist grab thumb up
  • Single handed wrist grab thumb down

Culture:

  • How to wear the kimono and tie the belt
  • ‘Thank you’ = ‘Obrigado’for males (oh-bre-gah-dough)

       = ‘Obrigada’ for females (oh-bre-gah-dah)

  • ‘Uniform’ = ‘Kimono'(key-moe-noh)

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on Grey/White Belt (Minimum 6 consistent attendance)

Movement Techniques:

  • Side break falls
  • Alligator walk
  • Crab walk
  • Forward roll over the shoulder to standing

Techniques:

  • One Takedown
  • One Submission from Guard
  • One Submission from Mount

Self Defence:

  • Two hands on one wrist grab break
  • Break fall and technical stand up with kick
  • Standing in base

Culture:

  • Demonstrate:

■     Mount position –Closed Guard –Back control –Side control

■     ‘Stop’- ‘Parou’ (pa-row)

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on Grey Belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)

Movement Techniques:

  • Alligator walk
  • Forward roll over the head
  • Backward roll over the head
  • Forward roll over the shoulder, slap the mat to stop flat

Techniques:

  • Two Takedowns
  • Two Submissions from Guard

Self Defence:

  • One handed front choke defence
  • Two handed front choke defence
  • Maintain Mount sequence to Back Control

Culture:

  • What are the three ways you can tap out?
  • Demonstrate the proper position and points given for:

     –Mount position –Closed Guard –Back Control –Side Control

  • How long do you have to hold a position to get points?
  • ‘Stalling’- ‘Lute’ (lu-tche)

  • 4 stripes on Grey/Black Belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)
  • Must be 7 years or older

Movement Techniques:

  • Bridging straight back
  • Bridging over the shoulder

Techniques: 

  • One escape from mount
  • One escape from bottom side control
  • Two sweeps from guard

Self Defence:

  • Rear Bear hug under arms
  • Basic self defence drill- break fall backwards, move forward, move back, and kick, technical stand up

Fitness:

  • Count to 10 while doing jumping jacks:
  • ‘1’ = ‘Um”2’ = ‘Dois”3’ = ‘Tres’ ‘4’ = ‘Quatro’ ‘5’ = ‘Cinco’ ‘6’ = ‘Seis’ ‘7’ = ‘Sete’ ‘8’ = ‘Oito’ ‘9’ = ‘Nove’ ’10’ = ‘Dayz’

Culture:

  • Who are the Gracies?
  • Who is Helio Gracie?
  • Demonstrate three versions of Side Control
  • How many points for and show the following:
  • A takedown -Knee on Belly position -A sweep -Passing guard

  • Must be 7 years or older

  • Two submissions from Mount
  • Two submissions from Guard
  • Two Escapes from Mount

Takedowns:

  • Outside Leg Reap (O Soto Gari)

Self Defence:

  • Front Bear Hug over arms
  • Front Beat Hug under arms

Fitness:

  • 50 Jumping Jacks
  • 10 Push Ups

Culture:

  • What are the other versions of mount that you can score points for?
  • When are advantage points given? How are they different that regular points?
  • What submissions are legal for all Kids ages?

  • 4 stripes on Yellow Belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)
  • Must be 7 years or older

Movement Techniques:

  • Roll backwards and Stand in base

Ground Techniques:

  • Two submission from Back Control
  • One escape from Back Control
  • Two Open Guard passes

Takedowns:

  • One takedown on the legs
  • Sacrifice throw

Fitness:

  • 30 Hindu Squats
  • 10 Hindu Pushups
  • 10 Sprawls

10 Sprawls:

  • ‘Mount’- ‘Montar’ (mon-tarh)
  • ‘Guard’- ‘Guarda’ (gwar-dah)
 

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on Yellow/Black Belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)
  • Must be 10 years or older

Basic Ground Positions:

  • Half Guard
  • Quarter Guard

Ground Techniques:

  • Two submission from Side Control
  • One submission from Knee on Belly
  • One escape from Knee on Belly
  • One escape from Bottom Half Guard

Takedown:

  • Hip Wheel (Koshi Garuma)

Self Defence:

  • Two handed front choke against wall
  • Sucker Punch Defence

Fitness:

  • 50 Bridges over the shoulder
  • 20 Bridges straight back

Culture:

  • ‘Sweep’ = ‘Raspar’ (has-parh)
  • ‘Pass’ = ‘Passar’ (pass-arh)

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on Orange/White Belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)
  • Must be 10 years or older

Ground Techniques:

  • Two escapes from Side Control
  • Half Guard to Mount

Self Defence:

  • Defence against Headlock (holding)
  • Defence against Headlock (hitting)

Fitness:

  • 30 Hindu Squats
  • 10 Hindu Pushups
  • 10 Sprawls

Culture:

  • ‘Head’ = ‘Cabeca’ (cah-bay-sah)
  • ‘Arm’ = ‘Braco’ (bra-soh)
  • ‘Leg’ = ‘Perna’ (perh-nah)

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on Orange Belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)
  • Must be 10 years or older

Ground Techniques:

  • Two sweep from opponent standing up in Guard
  • One Guard Breaks and Pass from Standing in Guard

Takedown:

  • Two take downs on the legs

Self Defence:

  • Single handed collar grab
  • Two handed collar grab
  • Escape Headlock on the Ground

Fitness:

  • 30 Hindu Squats
  • 10 Hindu Pushups
  • 20 Sprawls

 

Pre Requirements:

  • Sprawl defence to double leg

  • Full Nelson escape

  • Counter to hip throws

  • Stripping and getting grips from standing

Self Defence:

  • One transition from Turtle to Back Control

  • One submission, opponent in Turtle position

  • One choke from Side Control

  • Two arm attacks from Side Control

Takedowns:

  • 4 stripes on Orange/Black belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)

  • Must be 13 years or older

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on Green/White belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)
  • Must be 13 years or older

Ground Techniques:

  • Two standing Guard Passes
  • Three submissions from Back Control
  • Three submissions from Mount
  • Lapel choke from back

Takedowns:

  • Two takedown
  • Pull Guard

Self Defence: 

  • Cross Collar Choke from standing
  • Single Handed shoulder grab
  • Sprawl Defence to leg takedown

Fitness:

  • 30 Sit throughs
  • 20 Reverse hip outs
 

Pre Requirements:

  • 4 stripes on Green belt (Minimum 1 year consistent attendance)
  • Must be 13 years or older

Movement Techniques:

  • Escape sequence- bridge, belly down, turtle, roll

Ground Techniques:

  • One sleeve choke
  • Two arm bars
  • 3 sweeps from guard
  • 3 submission from guard

Self Defence:

  • Standing Choke from behind
  • Standing Choke & Drag from behind

Fitness:

  • 20 Hip outs
  • 10 Stands in base
  • 50 Sit ups
  • 50 Bridges over shoulder
